PATNA: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar will abstain from Niti Aayog’s eighth governing council meeting which will be chaired by PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday, a senior minister in the state cabinet said on Friday. “Our CM will not attend the Niti Aayog’s meeting. He does not have any programme to visit Delhi on Saturday,” the Bihar minister, who did not wish to be identified, said.
Nitish will be the fourth chief minister to abstain from the Niti Aayog meeting, being held a day before the inauguration of the new Parliament building which his party JD(U), along with 19 other opposition parties, will skip. The CMs of Bengal, Delhi and Punjab — Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann — will also skip the meeting.
“Around 10 days ago, the Bihar government had sent a missive to the Centre and the Niti Aayog, proposing the names of deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav and state’s finance minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary as the representatives of the state for Saturday’s meeting instead of CM Nitish Kumar. But the Centre did not send any response till Thursday evening,” another minister familiar with the issue told TOI.
